Louver size?
Most people today want a large louvered "plantation" look shutter. Louver widths are 3.5" or 4.5" in this look. Generally the 4.5" louver provides a more modern, robust look and is considered more in proportion on larger windows.
3.5" is most popular
2.5" is also available and sometimes specified for smaller projections or doors.
Wood, Plastic or other?
Most people prefer real wood shutters as they do other fine furnishings. Plastic is often thought to be less expensive and best for starter homes or wet enviroments. However, Cabana Shutters are often reported to be less expensive than plastic shutters and are considered to be a much better value. Although some will say that plastic shutters never need painting there is very little if any difference between the finish on plastic shutters and the finish on Paramont and Cabana shutters. We hope you never have to paint but the decision to paint is most likely due to a desire to update colors and not due to deterioration of finish. The core of the product does not effect its need for refinishing. Paramont and Cabana Shutters are guaranteed to hold up to the sun. Wood is lighter, more attractive and does not emit poisonous gas in fires. It does not shrink over time and has more colors and finishes available.
